NAWOJ was formed in September 1989 to provide a unified voice for female journalists in Nigeria, addressing the challenges and lack of recognition they faced in the male-dominated profession.
It is the umbrella organization for all female journalists in Nigeria with the aim to cater for their career interests in terms of training towards professional interests.

NAWOJ Lagos Chair (2019 – 2025)
Dr. (Mrs.) Adeola Akinwunmi Ekine is a respected public affairs professional, visionary leader and two-term Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter. She has devoted over two decades to the advancement of journalism, gender equity, and public service, leaving an indelible legacy in both media and governance.
She currently works under the Lagos State Ministry of Information & Strategy, as Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Printing Corporation.
Her passion for communication, advocacy, and institution-building has made her a symbol of integrity, excellence, and empowerment.
Dr. Ekine holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, a B.Sc. in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos and an honorary Doctorate Degree from the Institute of Public Sector Management, United Kingdom.

Hajia Sekinah Temitope Lawal nee Ademuyiwa is a journalist with over 25 years work experience as a Reporter, Correspondent, Line Editor, Assistant Editor and Editor. She is the Managing Editor of Smartviewsmagazine.com.
She is former Online Editor of The Point newspaper and former Assistant Editor, National Mirror newspaper.
She was the Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ Lagos State Chapter, between 2017 - 2019.
Hajia Sekinah is mentor to many youths and women, and a public speaking expert who has facilitated various training programs of great benefits.
She is a passionate peace advocate in the workplace and the home. Her work has steered many women and youths on positive contributions towards good governance, participation and accountability in leadership.
She is a Board member of Methodist High School Old Students Association, and Media Career Services Incorporation.
Hajia Sekinah Temitope Lawal is happily married to Ibraheem Adebayo Lawal and they are blessed with 5 great children.
In her leisure, Hajia Sekinah loves reading, traveling and gardening.

NAWOJ Lagos Chair (2010-2016)
Mrs. Dupe Olaoye-Osinkolu, born on July 13, 1960, is a seasoned journalist, broadcaster, and media executive with a distinguished career spanning several decades.
She studied Dramatic Arts (Scriptwriting) at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; Journalism at the Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Lagos; and Mass Communication at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. She later broadened her academic and professional horizon with certifications in Newswriting and Reporting from the City University of New York, USA, and from the Goldsmiths Business School, London, UK.
Her career began at the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Ibadan, where she served as a Programmes Coordinator. She later joined The Comet and subsequently The Nation newspapers, where she distinguished herself as a frontline Labour Correspondent for 15 years. She eventually rose to become Managing Editor at NewsmakersNG, a fast-growing digital news platform.
In pursuit of her passion for security and legal studies, Olaoye-Osinkolu went on to study Law and Security Management at the Centre for Security Training and Management, Toronto, Canada, where she currently resides and works.
During her tenures as NAWOJ Lagos Chairperson, she launched Positive Thinkers, a NAWOJ Lagos magazine that published in hardcopy and online, to amplify the voices of women. She equally launched the Miss NAWOJ Lagos Beauty Pageant, and a punctuality incentive to encourage members during Congresses.
